Navigating Ground Units

Ground units can be controlled with the default joystick method, the alternate joystick tank controls method, the keyboard, and the keyboard/mouse combination method.

Tips for Microsoft SideWinder Joystick Owners

Your Microsoft SideWinder joystick is a powerful weapon in this game. To make a turn faster and sharper, move the joystick in the direction you wish to turn while twisting the rudder control in the same direction. This can easily turn the tide in battle as you fight first-person from within your vehicle.

Default Joystick Controls

There are two kinds of joystick controls specific to ground units. One uses the default controls, which is what Urban Assault is automatically programmed to do. The other uses the alternate joystick tank controls method.

Move the joystick to turn your vehicle left and right and to move it forward and back.
Move the hat switch to move your vehicle's targeting sights left, right, up, and down.

Alternate Joystick Tank Controls

Alternate joystick tank controls is an option provided to you on the Input Settings screen.

To activate the alternate joystick tank controls, click Input Settings on the Main Menu, and then select the Alternate Joystick Tank Controls check box.
Move the joystick left and right to turn your ground unit left and right.
Move the joystick forward to move the targeting sights down and back to move them up.
Adjust the throttle to move your vehicle forward and back.

Keyboard

Press the arrow keys to turn your ground unit left and right and to move it forward and back.
Press the A key to move the targeting sights up and the Z key to move them down.

Keyboard/Mouse Combination

To grant vehicle control to the mouse, right-click your mouse.
Move the mouse left and right to turn your vehicle left and right.
Move the mouse forward to move the targeting sights down and back to move them up.
Press the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to move your vehicle forward and back.
